Window Dressers insulating window inserts for the Burlington area!

17 people pose for a group photo with wooden window frames, some covered with plastic, and other insert parts. There's a table in the foreground with project materials like tape and scissors, and custom wooden jigs to aid alignment. The space is ECHO's Lakeside room.

Get Inserts!

These window inserts are like window plastic except they are resuable, quicker to install and remove, have two layers, and the plastic is tight so it has a minimal effect on the view

Low- or no-cost window insulation

We ask people to pay only for the materials for their inserts. You help assemble them at the "community build," and that covers the labor. If the material cost is too high, you can pay less or get up to 10 unpainted inserts a year at no cost.

If you can afford to pay more, you can donate to help cover the cost of inserts for people who can't afford them.

Book your measuring appointment!

After you get confirmation from Window Dressers, you can schedule an appointment for a pair of volunteers to come measure your windows.

Our story

20 years ago a group of Mainers built double-layer, reusable, interior window inserts for their church. Church members asked about getting inserts for their homes. Window Dressers was born! Today, there are nearly 50 towns, mostly in Maine and Vermont, where volunteers help people assemble their town's inserts at the local "community build" event.

Our Team

The Burlington area volunteer team was start started by four people in Burlington's Old North End in 2021. Over time the volunteer team has grown to more than 15 people who do outreach to get people signed up, measure people's windows, and help at the build.

There's always room for more! Having more volunteers has allowed us to focus on the pieces we enjoy most and to divide up the measuring visits by location. If you want to help, please email us.
